At Riverbend Park, the Point is Adventure

Riverbend Park, one of the 11 parks operated by Feather River Parks and Recreation District in Butte County, is still recovering from floods caused during the 2017 Oroville Dam Spillway failure. At MDG, we’ve had the pleasure of working on that park for a couple of projects through the years and can’t wait to complete the next phase of our work there. While new soccer fields are some of the greenest around with the addition of  biocarbon soil amendment, lately we’ve been thinking more vertically.

In partnership with Patronicity, a civic crowdfunding platform, Riverbend Park has a project fundraiser currently ongoing. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $88,000 to create Butte County’s largest climbing boulder and install it at Riverbend Park. This boulder, to be built by Eldorado Climbing Walls, will offer the community a place to build trust, a connection to outdoor activity, and confidence in each other.

If the $88,000 goal is met, the boulder will become the core of the upcoming Point Adventure multi-generational outdoor space at Riverbend Park. This space, to be located just off of the beach, will feature slides, zip lines, tall swings, adventure fire tower, and an obstacle course designed for youth & adults alike. Riverbend Park soil gets eco-friendly boost

From Chico Enterprise-Record:

OROVILLE — Truckloads of soil amendment to aid with water conservation and carbon storage were delivered on Monday to the Riverbend Park soccer fields.

The fields, along with most of the park, are being reconstructed following flooding damages from the Oroville Dam spillway crisis of February 2017. Reducing water use is a key component in the park redesign, which is being done by Melton Design Group.

Live Oak Soccer Park Grand Opening

In April, the City of Live Oak held a grand opening ceremony for the 27 acre, Live Oak Soccer Park. Greg Melton and MDG master planned the park and produced construction documents for the first 12 acre phase. The opening was a big hit and the community of Live Oak is ecstatic to have their new community park and a place for large scale soccer events. Shawn Rohrbacker managed the project for MDG. Here he is with his daughter Ruby enjoying the festivities.
